About twenty members of the French cooperative Cavac, one of the main agricultural groups in western France, visited the Pistacyl pistachio plantations on March 20th to learn first-hand about their cultivation method and the pistachio production process.
The cooperative members traveled to the Valladolid town of Moraleja de las Panaderas, where they visited one of the plots that the company has, with more than 5,000 pistachio trees.
The president of Grupo Pistacyl, Alfredo Pérez, was in charge of explaining to the visitors all the details about this crop, as well as the results of the different research projects that the company has been developing since its origins to obtain a high-quality pistachio.
The tour concluded with a pistachio tasting accompanied by Desacato wine that Grupo Pistacyl makes from Verdejo grapes from the Rueda Denomination of Origin.
The visit was part of a mission organized by Cavac to learn about the good practices of their colleagues in Castile and Leon. Specifically, 18 producers and managers of the rabbit sector participated in the visit, who also visited the facilities of Grupo Hermi, the largest producer of rabbit meat in Spain, in La Cistérniga (Valladolid).
Rabbit farming is one of the activities carried out by the Cavac group, which also includes pig and cattle farming, the production of legumes and other types of vegetable crops, the distribution of its products through a network of its own stores and agri-food processing. It is made up of 4,730 agricultural holdings and also has 1,718 employees.
