Grupo Pistacyl starts pistachio harvest early, forecasting a 20% increase

Grupo Pistacyl has launched its pistachio harvest campaign in Castilla y León several weeks ahead of schedule, projecting a 20% increase in volume.

This early start is due to high summer temperatures, which accelerated the ripening of the nuts. Neither production nor quality has been compromised; the company expects the crop to be excellent once again in terms of both pistachio size and organoleptic characteristics.

Consequently, Grupo Pistacyl aims to reach 480 tonnes of green pistachios this season—equivalent to approximately 160 tonnes of dried pistachios—figures that reaffirm the family-owned Valladolid company’s position as the leading producer in Castilla y León.

Since its inception in 2008, Grupo Pistacyl has steadily expanded its own pistachio cultivation area, having started with just 80 trees on half a hectare of land in Moraleja de las Panaderas (Valladolid).

Today, driven by a strong commitment to innovation and sustainable farming methods, the company manages 70 hectares with around 15,000 pistachio trees spread across several fields in the province of Valladolid.

Grupo Pistacyl aims to continue increasing the volume of pistachios processed at its plant in El Carpio (Valladolid)—sourced from both its own plots and other areas of Castilla y León—to meet the high demand for this nut, which has become an essential ingredient in haute cuisine and pastry making.

To this end, in addition to selling the nuts themselves, the company has introduced innovative products made from pistachios to the market, such as Spain’s first cold-pressed pistachio oil—a 100% natural product with high nutritional value and excellent culinary properties. In addition to pistachio oil, Grupo Pistacyl has launched other innovative food products, such as pistachio paste, pistachio and chocolate cream, natural pistachio praline with extra virgin olive oil, and the more recent Pistachoc and PistaZetas bonbons.

Grupo Pistacyl’s products are available at various retail outlets—including El Corte Inglés, Carrefour, and Casa Elias supermarkets, and the Tierra de Sabor market—as well as through the company’s own online store.

Some of these products are also included in an exclusive gourmet box designed in collaboration with the Thyssen Museum, available for purchase at both the museum’s official shop and Grupo Pistacyl’s store.

In 2022, Grupo Pistacyl began exporting its pistachios to Ireland, France, Portugal, and Italy; since then, it has established business contacts in markets such as Japan, Poland, the United Arab Emirates, the USA, India, South America, Australia, Mexico, and Kenya. The company aims to export 50% of its production, primarily to Europe.
